　　我特別喜歡他的那幅《向日葵》，朵朵黃花有如明亮的珍珠，耀人眼日，但孤零零插在花瓶里，配著黃色的背景，給人的是種凄涼的感覺，似乎是盛宴散后，燈燭未滅的那種空蕩蕩的光景，令人為之心沉。我原是愛看向日葵的，每天清晨看它們緩緩轉向陽光，灑著露珠，是那樣的楚楚可憐亦復可愛。如今得了這幅畫便把它裝上鏡框，掛在寓所餐室里。向口葵襯在一片明亮亮的黃色陽光里，掛在漆成墨綠色的墻壁上。宛如婷婷佇立在一望無際的原野中。特別怡目，但又顯得孤清。每天我就這樣坐在這幅畫的對面，看到了歡欣，也嘗到了寂寞。以后我讀了歐文·斯通的《生活的渴望》，是關于梵高短暫一生的傳記。他只活了三十七歲;半生在探索色彩的顛狂中生活，最后自殺了。他不善謀生，但在藝術上卻走出了自己的道路，雖然到死后很久，才為人們所承認。我讀了這本書，為他執著的生涯所感動，因此更寶貴他那畫得含蓄多姿的向日葵。我似乎懂得了他的畫為什么一半歡欣，一半寂寞的道理。

　　I like his painting Sunflowers in particular, for each yellow flower is glittering like a pearl, but with the blossoms held lonesome in a vase against the yellow background, it manifests a dreary scene, which is as vacant as a finished banquet and only the candles are left burning, making us dekected. I love sunflowers and enjoy watching them turn their faces towards the sun in the morning, dripping with dew drops, so delicate and charming. Now, I have frame this painting and hung it on the wall of the dining room in my flat. Hung on the dark-green-painted wall, the sunflowers are as if standing in an endless field bathed in bright golden sunshine, looking exceptionally pleasant to the eye but giving a sense of loneliness as well.
