現在越來越多的求職朋友對求職信的寫作越來越看重，也知道了求職信在得到面試的過程中扮有多么重要的分量了，因此，英文求職信的寫作也被提上了簡歷制作的一部分，據統計，一封好的求職信 運用簡介流暢語言概述求職愿望、對職位的理解及任職資歷，表達自信，吸引對方仔細閱讀你的簡歷。
好的求職信配合簡歷，能顯著增加獲得面試的機會; 但是有些人對英文求職信的寫作技巧和閱讀習性掌握并不好，以致畫蛇添足，弄巧成拙。現在就 我們的 經驗，談談怎么寫英文求職信，當然我們的也并非完美，給需要的朋友一二借鑒而已。
在語言風格上要平實、簡潔。切忌用夸張、比喻的手法引起誤解，而要給招聘者留下誠懇、務實的印象。招聘者也沒有時間閱讀過長的信件，所以整篇書信要簡短，能控制在一頁16開紙上為最好。
在句子結構上要多用長句。長句善于表達復雜事物，一方面有利于準確表達求職者的意圖，容易給招聘者留下思維條理清晰，邏輯性強的印象;另一方面，將大量信息融合到一個句子中，很容易抓住招聘者的注意力，迫使其一口氣讀完，從而留下深刻印象。
從語氣上，求職信應寫得誠懇而積極，表達出自己對該單位的向往之情。切忌傲慢或過于自謙。
從內容上看，英文求職信一般要包括七個步驟：
1. introducing candidate (介紹候選身份)
在這一部分中，求職者要介紹自己的求職意向和個人情況，包括受教育、專業、工作履歷等方面的情況。
2. establishing credential (確定任職憑證)
在這部分，求職者要表明自己為什么和憑什么選擇這份工作，即自己的專業或目前從事的工作類型。
3. offering incentives (鼓勵接受申請)
這一步是招聘者能否給應聘者面試機會的關鍵。應聘者可以從能力、經驗、個人專長、性格優勢等各方面進行闡述，鼓勵招聘者給自己一個面試的機會。
4. enclosing document (提及附加材料)
應聘往往會被要求或自愿隨信附加一些證明文件，比如各種證書和近期照片。最好再附上一個已寫好的回郵信封。以便盡快得到回音。
5. using pressure tactics(采用施壓策略)
這是為了獲得面試機會而使用的手段。但這一步對求職者的要求很高，必須對自己的實力有充分的自信，還要了解招聘者的薄弱環節在什么地方，才能積極有效的施加壓力。否者這種手段的效果只能適得其反。
6. soliciting response(請求答復)

這是一名大專畢業生請我修改的一封求職信。在這篇求職信中我們能看到該生的禮貌，但讀到的信息只有：求職意向、個人身份、專業，其它什么也沒有。在上面提及的七個語步中只能找到1、6、7 的內容。最重要的第2和第3步只用了抽象的形容詞：qualified ,energetic, confident 來完成。這樣的求職信不會給招聘者留下任何印象。而且該文中幾乎都是短句，給人感覺作者文句駕馭能力不強，不通暢。所以這是一封失敗的求職信。這也反映了在我們英語教學中對學生實用性能力培養的欠缺。
